OK so Creative released new drivers that cover all modern versions of Windows and supersede their previous Win10-only release. They seem more stable and thus far audio switching works (headphones <-> speakers). Hopefully it is fixed for good otherwise it’s an intermittent problem. I love Creative’s sound cards, but their drivers often fall a little behind.

I guess there’s not much more you can do on decoding HEVC performance since you guys didn’t write the decoder. I was thinking it might be possible to crunch more on the GPU via DX12 compute shaders. Or to use mewer-gen fixed decoder blocks like UVD 6 (found in Tonga, Fiji, anything Arctic Islands and later). But again, I wasn’t really thinking - that stuff isn’t your project.
Still, the performance gains you did make have been impressive and it’s now fast enough for 4k HEVC.
I wish I had pull at HP! Outside of a possible 2017 Surface phone, the Elite X3 is the most interesting phone to me.
Oh, one more thing. I’m not actually sure if this is a bug per se. VLC now supports changing audio devices… but it doesn’t work for me. I think the issue is that I use a SB Z sound card, and so I use Creative’s panel to quickly change from speakers to headphones (headset). Skype handles the transition fine, so it doesn’t seem to be a systemic issue on my end. If this is a Creative driver-specific issue and it can’t be fixed, no big deal. I can close and reopen VLC.

@Alex: yes, it’s way faster. But it’s using hardware decoding and displaying, so I doubt there is anything to do here.
Audio, clearly, the new resampler is great.

I briefly compared the new UWP version to the old WinRT version and two things immediately stood out. First, the performance is definitely better, especially 4K. It’s still not quite as fast as it could be, maybe it could lean on shaders harder (as an option perhaps). But it’s fast enough for smooth 4K HEVC on my system.
Second, you may recall me complaining about audio quality on the old WinRT version, especially with voices. Well so far every video I previously had issues with now sounds perfectly fine with the UWP release!
Other thoughts:
VLC on Hololens looks really badass. Wow.
Continuum support! Sweet. I’m eyeing the impending HP Elite X3, so Continuum support is very welcome.
Backporting to 8.1 editions! All my devices will soon be W10 variants but this is still very thoughtful of the VLC gang. Thank you so much for all the hard work, this new UWP release is off the a very promising start!

Well first of all what a beautiful design update! Bravo
I’m just wondering when will you implement a bookmark type of feature to VLC? like say if I’m One hour and 24 minutes, into a 2 hour film and I decide to leave it and resume the movie another day how do I go about setting a bookmark up so the video can play right where I left off?
I think that would be beneficial

@Paras: yes, it should inherit the colour. For PiP, no resize. And no, it won’t float outside, because you don’t need that, since you can resize the video player window. As for FAB, because there is nothing similar.

Love the design! Will the app automatically adapt to the system theme and accent colour like the new Twitter app does? I don’t like having to change these settings in every app individually. An option to use the system theme and accent colour in the app settings like in Outlook Mail would be cool as well.
Can we resize PiP? Will PiP be able to float outside of the app on the desktop?
Also curious about the decision to use the floating play button that falls more in line with Material Design than MDL2.
